Talk to Coach

Not everyone realizes what it's like to have a deployed parent and that it might be harder to keep up with all your commitments. It took courage for Kayla to open up to her coach. She wasn't sure how he would react, but it turned out he could relate to her situation. It is nice to have someone to turn to: another adult she and her family trust.

  • Take a minute and think about the people you feel close to—your inner cirtcle of family, friends, teachers, and coaches. What are some of the topics you can share with each of them?
  • What Next?
It's admirable to make a sacrifice for friends and family, but sometimes there is another way. Kayla found another way to sort out her feelings when she talked to her coach. You should identify a few trusted adults that you can go to when you need to vent or need help solving a problem. Once you sort out your thoughts and feelings with that trusted adult, think about sharing your thoughts and feelings with your parent.
